This month, our Elementary School is focusing on the middah of Simcha! During their Friday Oneg, students have been exploring the many ways we can bring happiness to others. One of those ways is through music! Each week, students have been singing different songs about simcha, discovering how singing together can lift our spirits, bring smiles to our faces, and spread joy to those around us!

A little chill in the air didn't stop the fun at OCA PTA's Annual Back-to-School Picnic! 🍂

Over 400 members of our OCA family came together for an adventure-filled afternoon at our Adventure Fest! From delicious BBQ and fun activity booths to sports, games, and time spent with friends, there was something for everyone to enjoy!

Thank you to our incredible PTA and all the volunteers who helped bring this event to life.

What does responsibility look like at every age?

Yesterday, our faculty and staff came together to explore Achrayut/responsibility, our first middah of the year.

In groups organized by the ages of the students they work with, staff considered what responsibility looks like at each stage: taking ownership of actions, following through on expectations, and learning from mistakes.

From singing songs about responsibility in the ECC to developing responsible study habits in Middle School, we explored ways to make Achrayut meaningful and age-appropriate. Throughout the conversation, we emphasized modeling responsibility for our students through our own everyday words and actions.

Together, we’re helping our students grow in responsibility, accountability, and care for others.

OCA students in grades 1–8 marked October 7 by lea

OCA students in grades 1–8 marked October 7 by learning about eight Israeli soldiers who served together in the same unit and whose lives we are committed to remembering.

These soldiers were among the first to respond to the kibbutzim on October 7 and lost their lives while defending our land. One of them was a dear friend of Morah Soly, our shlicha, who feels a personal mission to ensure they are remembered and that their stories continue to be told.

These eight soldiers can no longer write their own stories, but we can carry their stories forward by weaving them into ours.

Our older students reflected on and wrote down ways they can honor the soldiers’ memories through the lives they lead and the ways they contribute to Am Yisrael, while our younger students each received a card featuring one of the eight soldiers. Each card was attached to a ribbon, and the ribbons were then woven together into an art installation that will be displayed at OCA — a reminder that their stories, their courage, and their sacrifice are now woven into ours.

May the zechut of the mitzvot and acts of chesed done in their memory be an aliyah for their neshamot.

This week, our 2nd graders brought their Judaic and General Studies learning together in such a creative way!

After learning about Sukkot in Rabbi Tuchman’s class and exploring place value in Morah Eliana’s class, students created their very own “Place Value Sukkahs,” using ones, tens, and hundreds to build each wall.

They finished their projects with a photo of themselves and the perfect message: “The Sukkah is a PLACE to celebrate what we VALUE.”

Back to school isn’t just for the kids! 📚✏️

OCA parents headed back to the classroom for our recent Back to School Nights! They met teachers, got a peek at what their children are learning, heard what’s ahead for the year, and even got to experience a little bit of life as an OCA student.

Thanks to all of our parents who joined us — we loved having you back at school!

Who loves honey? Today, the ECC children were excited to meet a real beekeeper from @hanselhillfarm! They learned about the life cycle of honeybees and the important roles each bee plays within the hive. The children explored beekeeping equipment, learned about the queen and her bee friends, and discovered how bees pollinate plants and produce honey. They also learned about the important role bees play in our environment and food supply. The children had the opportunity to see and learn about honey while asking questions and discovering fun and interesting facts about these amazing pollinators. It was a fun, hands-on learning experience that left everyone buzzing with excitement!

Learning, growing, and getting ready for a sweet new year! 🍎🍯

From everyday classroom learning to Rosh Hashanah activities, our students have been busy making these first weeks of school count.

Wishing our entire OCA community a שנה טובה ומתוקה — a happy, healthy, and sweet new year!

The first day of school was the start of the 2026–27 | 5787 chapter of our students’ OCA journeys! Upon their arrival, they were welcomed by festive balloon towers, signs featuring sefarim and books that they're familiar with or that they’ll encounter in the years ahead, and prompts inviting them to think about the story they want to write this year.

Students jumped right back into the rhythm of school, reconnecting with friends and teachers, getting to know new classmates, and settling into their new routines. With a full year of learning, growth, friendships, milestones, and memorable moments ahead, we can’t wait to see each student’s OCA story unfold!

Here’s to a wonderful year of Writing Our Story together!

As Teacher Week comes to a close, we’re looking back on a week packed with learning, planning, connecting, and preparing for an incredible year ahead!

We welcomed our new faculty and staff, heard an address from our Rabbinic Advisor, Rabbi Marwick, reviewed important policies and procedures, and spent time learning together.

Each division also participated in professional development tailored to their students and classrooms:

✨ ECC refreshed their learning with Tommaso Lana, exploring how movement and sensory learning impact young children.

📚 Elementary School participated in a fun, interactive session focused on establishing successful policies, procedures, and routines in the classroom.

💡 Middle School explored the “Anatomy of an Excellent Lesson,” with a focus on creating engaging and effective learning experiences.

Sprinkled throughout the week were updates from different departments, plenty of planning and preparation, and, of course, lots of snacks, breakfasts, and lunches to keep everyone going! We also enjoyed our annual Teacher Week Faculty & Staff Dinner at Dr. Rapoport’s home, where beautiful weather made for a perfect evening to relax and connect before the school year begins.

We’re ready for 2026–27!

Our recent ECC Playground Playdates gave our youngest students a chance to reconnect with familiar friends, meet new ones, and enjoy some ice cream and time together on the playground before the first day of school.

We loved seeing our ECC families back together and can’t wait for all the friendships and fun the new school year will bring!

Yesterday, the admin team stepped away from our desks and spent the day together at Pearlstone for a retreat centered on the powerful theme of Hakarat HaTov.

As we prepare to welcome students, families, and staff for a new school year, we took time to reflect on the people who make OCA such a special place. Through meaningful conversations, team-building, and moments of gratitude, we focused on how Hakarat Hatov strengthens our relationships, our work, and ultimately the experience we create for every child.

We left feeling refreshed and inspired. Here's to a year filled with gratitude!

Our Last Day of School Red Carpet Walk looked a little different this year... apparently the red carpet started summer vacation before the rest of us. 😄

Even without the carpet, our students took their turns walking to the cheers of family, friends, and teachers as we celebrated the final day of an incredible school year.

From our youngest ECC students to our graduating 8th graders, we’re so proud of all they accomplished this year. Wishing all of our families a wonderful summer! ☀️

The final weeks of the school year are always filled with special milestone events! Recently, we’ve had the privilege of celebrating our 4th Grade Mishna Celebration, 5th Grade Siyum and Celebration, Kindergarten End-of-Year Celebration, ECC 4s Celebration of Learning, and, of course, our 8th Grade Graduation. These events highlight the growth and hard work of our students (and teachers!) throughout the year.

A special thank you to the parents and grandparents who joined us to share in these special moments.

Mazel tov to all of our celebrating students and families! We are so proud of all you have achieved and look forward to seeing what comes next.

Our Lost and Found has become quite the collection, so we decided to give some of the items a moment in the spotlight. The results? A fashion show success! Eleven lost items were claimed by their rightful owners.

🎓 Mazel Tov to the OCA Class of 2026!

Every graduate has a story, and at OCA, we take the time to celebrate each one. As part of our graduation ceremony, Middle School teachers write heartfelt letters to their students, reflecting on the growth, talents, and qualities that make each graduate unique. A special excerpt from each letter is shared aloud, creating a meaningful and memorable moment for students and families alike.

It is a powerful reminder that every child is seen, known, and valued.

We are so proud of our graduates and grateful to have been part of their journey. Wishing them continued success and bracha as they take their next steps forward!

Inspired by Caine’s Arcade, our first graders dreamed big, planned thoughtfully, and transformed recycled and upcycled materials into imaginative arcade games. From foosball to skee-ball and everything in between, their creativity was on full display!

Throughout the project, students learned valuable lessons in flexibility, perseverance, and problem-solving as they navigated the ups and downs of the design process. We were delighted to welcome students and staff from across the school to explore the arcade and experience their creations firsthand.

Kol Hakavod to our first graders for turning everyday materials into extraordinary inventions and showing us the power of a true Bubble Gum Brain!
