Engineering in early childhood program - STEAMM
Engineering introduces children to designing, building, testing, and improving ideas. Encourage critical thinking, creativity, resilience, and teamwork.
- Build structures with blocks, recycled materials, Magna-Tiles, or loose parts
- Explore ramps, bridges, towers, and simple machines
- Solve problems such as “How can we make this tower stronger?” or “How can we move water from one place to another? “What makes an object float or sink?”
- Practice planning, predicting, testing, and revising designs
Arts in STEAMM
Children Involved:
- Draw, paint, collage, and create with open-ended materials
- Use music, movement, drama, and storytelling to express ideas
- Explore colors, textures, patterns, rhythm, and design
- Engage in process-focused art experiences that value creativity over perfection
Math in STEAMM
Children naturally explore:
- Counting, sorting, matching, and classifying blocks while building
- Patterns, shapes, measurement, and spatial awareness
- Estimation, comparing quantities, and problem-solving
- Graphing, and sequencing
- Math vocabulary through play and exploration- plant growth in science investigations
Yoga and mindfulness
- Breathing exercises before activities
- Guided observation during nature walks or science exploration
- Sensory exploration using sight, sound, touch, and movement- watching the birds
- Yoga, stretching, and calming movement activities
- Encouraging children to pause, reflect, and describe what they notice
- Teaching persistence and coping strategies during problem-solving
