Second grade

Judaic studies

Students continue to strengthen Hebrew reading through Kriability, refining fluency, accuracy, Hebrew script, and advanced kriah rules such as shva. A major highlight of the year is Hachana L'Chumash through the L'Havin U'Lehaskil program, where students build the vocabulary and language skills needed for Torah learning, including future tense, prefixes, gematria, and foundational grammar. The year culminates in the joyful Mesibat Chumash as students receive their first Chumash and begin studying Parshiyot Lech Lecha and Vayeira. Tefillah, Parsha, Chagim, and conversational Ivrit continue to deepen students' understanding of Jewish life through meaningful discussion and hands-on experiences.

Preparing for Chumash

Second Grade is a transformational year as students prepare to receive their first Chumash and begin engaging with Torah text in a deeper, more analytical way. Students strengthen independence, critical thinking, and academic confidence while continuing to grow socially and spiritually. Teachers challenge each child through differentiated instruction, encouraging curiosity, perseverance, and a love of learning.

General studies

Language Arts focuses on reading comprehension, vocabulary, multiple genres, opinion, narrative, and informational writing, grammar, and research skills using ReadBright and Handwriting Without Tears. Second graders will explore place value, addition and subtraction within larger numbers, early multiplication and division, measurement, time, money, and geometry using the Reveal Math curriculum. Students build understanding by exploring mathematical ideas, noticing patterns, using multiple representations, and sharing their strategies with others, developing both computational skills and confidence as problem solvers.

Mystery Science explores animal habitats and biodiversity, plant growth and pollination, erosion, properties of materials, and states of matter, while Social Studies introduces geography, citizenship, family culture, and current events. Art, computers, music, and physical education enrich every student's educational experience.
