Middah Mensch - elementary school

OCA’s Middah Mensch program in the Elementary School is designed to nurture a culture of kindness, respect, and strong character in our students. Each month, the school focuses on a specific middah (value), such as gratitude, returning lost items, kindness, or respect for others. Throughout the week, teachers highlight opportunities for students to practice and embody that middah in their daily interactions.

Each Friday, students gather for a special Elementary Oneg where we celebrate these efforts. During the Oneg, the principal shares Middah Mentions that were provided by the teachers to publicly recognize students who exemplified the middah of the month with a “Middah Mensch” shout-out. These students are acknowledged in front of their peers and receive a special sticker to mark their achievement. A Middah Mentch chart is also sent home allowing parents to recognize and share beautiful middot they see, and the chart is brought back to school for recognition as well.

By consistently highlighting and celebrating positive behaviors, the Middah Mensch program encourages students to be thoughtful, caring, and respectful members of their community. It reinforces the idea that small, everyday actions matter—and that each child has the ability to make a meaningful impact on those around them.
