Foundations of learning
Kindergarten at Ohr Chadash Academy is an exciting year of discovery, growth, and increasing independence. Serving as the bridge between Early Childhood and Elementary School, our program combines whole group academic and social-emotional learning with center-based exploration, skill-building educational games, and targeted small-group instruction to help every child develop confidence academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.
As students become increasingly independent learners, they develop confidence, while strengthening their executive function, cooperation, self-regulation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Judaic studies
Our Judaic Studies program lays the foundation for a lifetime of Torah learning and mitzvot. Through Kriability, students develop Hebrew literacy by mastering letter recognition, nekudot, blending, decoding, and Hebrew writing. Daily tefillah helps children understand that speaking to Hashem is both meaningful and personal as they learn foundational tefillot and brachot with increasing understanding and confidence.
Parsha and the chagim come alive through storytelling, music, movement, dramatic play, science connections, creative projects, and hands-on experiences. Students explore Jewish values, halachot, and traditions while making connections to Eretz Yisrael and everyday life. Ivrit is naturally integrated throughout the day as children build vocabulary, converse in simple Hebrew, and learn through songs, games, art, and classroom interactions.
General studies
Kindergarten students develop strong academic foundations through engaging and research-based instruction. Using the ReadBright literacy program and Handwriting Without Tears, students build phonics, writing skills, vocabulary, and listening comprehension that nurtures confident readers and writers. Kindergarteners explore counting and cardinality, addition and subtraction, shapes, measurement, and comparing quantities using the Reveal Math curriculum. Through hands-on exploration, visual models, mathematical conversations, and opportunities to explain their thinking, students begin to see math as something they can make sense of, talk about, and use to solve problems.
With the Mystery Science program, students investigate animal and plant needs, weather patterns, sunlight and warmth, pushes and pulls, while Social Studies introduces students to seasons, holidays, famous Americans, and their community. Art, music, and physical education enrich every child's educational experience.
