At OCA, social-emotional growth is an integral part of the Middle School experience. Through classroom lessons and school-wide programming, students develop the skills that support both academic success and healthy relationships, including self-reflection, emotional awareness, responsible decision-making, empathy, and effective communication. Students learn to build positive peer relationships, manage conflict constructively, and take responsibility for their actions, helping them navigate the challenges of adolescence with confidence and maturity.
Middle school advisory
Each Middle School student is part of an advisory group led by a faculty advisor who serves as a mentor and guide throughout the year. Advisors work closely with teachers, counselors, and families to support students’ academic progress and overall well-being.
Advisory sessions help students:
- Set academic and personal goals
- Develop organization and study skills
- Strengthen self-advocacy
- Reflect on their growth as learners and individuals
- Navigate social challenges and conflicts in constructive ways
Through these regular meetings and relationships with trusted adults, students are supported as they grow in independence, responsibility, and confidence.
Middot and personal growth
Character development and social-emotional growth are essential components of the Middle School experience at OCA.
We believe that students thrive academically when they also develop the emotional awareness, interpersonal skills, and self-confidence needed to navigate the challenges of adolescence.
Our program integrates Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and Middle School Advisory to support students’ growth as thoughtful, responsible members of the school community.
