Student support and development
At OCA, our goal is to help each child achieve success across all curricular areas and at all ability and readiness levels.
Differentiated instruction
Differentiated Instruction ensures that every student is challenged, supported, and empowered to grow at a pace and depth appropriate for their readiness. For students who need additional academic resources, targeted instruction and individualized support help build confidence, strengthen foundational skills, and foster success in the classroom.
Our Directors of Academic Support and their staff guide individual students to understand their learning profile and utilize their strengths to tackle academic challenges. In the Elementary School, students may receive classroom push-in support and/or individual and small group Learning Center support, as needed.
In Middle School, qualifying students may be exempt from one course to enroll in the Learning Center where they can receive support across subject areas in a small group setting. Parents will be charged an annual fee for the service separate from tuition based on the number of sessions per week. Financial assistance is available for eligible families.
At the same time, students who are ready for greater challenges benefit from enrichment opportunities that encourage critical thinking, creativity, and deeper exploration of concepts. By knowing our students as individuals and meeting them where they are, differentiated learning creates a dynamic classroom environment where all learners can thrive.
When a student’s needs cannot be met through differentiation and/or push-in support with our learning center specialists, support services may be provided by private tutors, Title I providers, or a member of the Jewish Educational Services (JES) staff, OCA’s community partner. Parents may also arrange for outside support services (e.g., SLP, OT) to be provided at school by private therapy providers and/or private tutors, space permitting.
